Recycled Crayons

So, how about this weather??? I'm actually enjoying these down right frigid days we've been having. It helps it feels more like Christmas. One downer is the kids haven't been out to play much. I read about recycling crayons months ago and figured this would be a great week for the boys to try it out.
First, you've got to have a lot of extra crayons. We used about 10 different colors, and about 5 to 6 crayons in each color. Next, we peeled all the paper off which was quite a job! I finally got a knife and beared down and sliced the paper, then it came off easier.

Then we snapped them into smaller pieces. I also used the knife to cut the darker colors smaller so they wouldn't overbear the other colors. By the way, the brighter the colors the better. Don't use the blacks, browns or greys.

Next, we set the oven at 275 degrees and sprayed the mini muffin pan with Pam. Then the fun part, putting the crayons in the tins! The boys did this, but if I had done one I thinks I would have done pink and lime green!

Put them in the oven. They should melt in about 7 to 8 minutes, give or take. Take them out as soon as they are all melted. I used a toothpick to swirls a few. Set them to the side and let'um harden. I stuck our's in the freezer for a bit to speed up the process!

We haven't used them yet, because I thought about using them for little Cmas gifts for the boys' classmates. But I'm not sure the boys can resist using them!

Sara Kate is still sweet and mischievious! She has manage to totally trash her Christmas tree, she decided the boys' bedroom walls needed some of her "custom" artwork, she takes off her clothes numerous times a day, she enjoys beating the poor cat with her "little dog"
(aka babydoll)....... Lord, please tell me this is the terrible twos!?!!! If so, please give me patience 4 more months!!!!!! But I luv her to death!
